Kirsteen Pieterse
Kirsteen Pieterse draws upon the precarious relationship between man and built environments in her work. Her sculptures resemble architectural models but, rather than celebrate the triumph of man's ingenuity over the natural world, they signify unease about man-made constructions. - Kate Bryan
Kirsteen Pieterse is a Sydney based artist. She is largely influenced by her time living in Hong Kong, surrounded by both the city's high-density urban environment and its beautiful natural landscape. Pieterse references 'Shanshui' paintings and 'Scholar's Rocks' within her sculptural forms. These works contrast raw and refined materials, often appearing perilously close to collapse.
