George Ward Tjungurrayi

George Ward Tjungurrayi began painting for Papunya Tula artists in 1984, but “after the death of his brother Yala Yala Gibbs Tjungurrayi in 1998, he began to paint in earnest, developing his own distinctive style… meticulous geometric drawing is offset by more rapid shaky dotting to produce a shimmering surface.” (V Johnson, 2008) In 2004 George was awarded the Art Gallery of New South Wales Wynne Prize for Landscape. His work is included in the collections of public institutions such as the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of New South Wales and Seattle Art Museum, USA.
