Freddy West Tjakamarra
Freddy West Tjakamarra was born in Pollock Hills, near the current site of Kiwirrkurra. He was raised by Tjipumanu Tjupurrula after his own father had passed away when he was young. It was from Tjipumanu Tjupurrula that Freddy West inherited country from Wungkurnya, a Wanampi (Snake) Dreaming, to Nyiinminga. Freddy West was approximately 30 when his family walked into Papunya in 1963 and he painted occasionally during Geoffrey Bardon's time. He was an original founder of the Papunya Tula Artists Pty Ltd. As well as one of the principal forces behind the Pintupi homeland movement in the 80s.
Freddy West Tjakamarra fathered 15 children many of whom paint for the Papunya Tula Artists and have continued in leadership roles within the Communities.
