Papunya Tula Artists Community VI

6 December - 20 December 2014

In 1971 a mural was painted by a group of senior men on the blank wall of the school building at Papunya, a small aboriginal community west of Alice Springs - this was the beginning of a painting movement that has transformed the Australian art world.

Utopia Art Sydney is proud to have represented this artist owned company since 1988 as its painters have continued to explore innovative forms, keeping their traditional stories alive.

In this group show, young and old, emerging and established artists hang side by side, indicating the great range of extraordinary images, now produced in the Western Desert communities of Kintore and Kiwirrkura. In addition, major large-scale paintings by artists such as Yukultji Napangati and George Tjungurrayi will demonstrate the visual power of the most important artists painting today.
