Tony Coleing: Prints From Found Objects

online exhibition from mid November 2021

exhibition essay

Tony Coleing is an artist with a career spanning over 60 years.  During his career, Coleing has worked across all media, but his printmaking has spanned all decades. He has always pursued new printmaking techniques.  Many of these works have already been collected by the National Gallery of Australia.

Tony Coleing spent time during lockdown going through his archive.  In these relief prints from the mid 1990s, Coleing uses diverse found objects including plastic bags, shoes, sandpaper and Champagne corks.  His trademark whimsy pervades all, often with a biting political or social narrative.
